Echo

Four pads. The sequence grows by one light every round. Echo it back exactly.

How to play

  1. Press Begin and watch the pads flash in order
  2. Repeat the sequence by tapping the same pads
  3. Each round adds one more step
  4. One wrong pad ends the run

What it trains

Sequence. Sequence games press on your span for ordered material. Untrained adults typically hold 5 to 9 items; Miller's 1956 paper called it the magical number seven, plus or minus two. The way past that ceiling is chunking: grouping steps into patterns like left-left-down instead of three separate lights.

Miller, 1956, Psychological Review.

One honest tip

Stop memorizing single lights around round 6. Start hearing the sequence as rhythm phrases.
