What it trains
Sequence. Sequence games press on your span for ordered material. Untrained adults typically hold 5 to 9 items; Miller's 1956 paper called it the magical number seven, plus or minus two. The way past that ceiling is chunking: grouping steps into patterns like left-left-down instead of three separate lights.
Miller, 1956, Psychological Review.
One honest tip
Stop memorizing single lights around round 6. Start hearing the sequence as rhythm phrases.
