What it trains
Attention. Reading is so automatic that it fires even when it sabotages you. John Ridley Stroop measured that in 1935: naming ink colors slows down dramatically when the word spells a different color. The effect is one of the most replicated findings in psychology and a standing measure of inhibitory control.

One honest tip
Blur the word on purpose. Squinting slightly kills reading before it kills color.
