Pairs
Sixteen cards, eight pairs, face down. Fewer moves and faster time mean more points.
How to play
- Tap Deal cards, then flip any two cards
- A match stays open; a miss flips back after a moment
- Clear all 8 pairs to score
- Under 20 moves is a strong run
What it trains
Visual memory. Matching games work your visual recognition memory: each flip asks whether you have seen a symbol before and where it was. Players who improve at Pairs usually get better at anchoring symbols to grid positions, which is spatial strategy as much as raw recall. That kind of within-task improvement is the most reliable effect in memory practice research.
On recognition vs. recall: Craik and Lockhart, 1972.
One honest tip
Say the position out loud in your head as you flip. Naming locations builds the anchor faster than staring.
